Community Contributions

  • Two-term President of the local Hispanic lawyers association, 1987-1988. 

  • Hosted the first ever "Evening for Education" in 1987 at which $8,300 net was raised for 11 elementary and middle schools in low income areas of East San Jose. 

  • President of the statewide Hispanic lawyers association in 1990, an organization with over 4,000 attorney-members at that time. 

  • Opposed illegal 1989-1990 INS raids in the Tropicana Center in San Jose, and other illegal INS raids throughout California.

  • Distributed in 1990, and statewide, over 65,000 sheets and cards outlining Constitutional Rights in both English and Spanish. The cards were additionally available in the Vietnamese, Korean and Chinese languages.

  • Board of Directors of the Volunteers in Parole.

  • Mentor-match to a parolee from the California Youth Authority. 

  • Member of the Board of Directors for the Center for Southeast Asian Refugee Resettlement. 

  • Lecturer at the neighborhood law school.

  • Law professor to attorney associations in California.

  • Guest speaker at many different schools concerning our legal system, issues of education, careers as a lawyer, as well as the need for young citizens to vote, to continue their education, and participate in our political process.

  • Vigorously litigated to insure that international treaty (the Vienna Convention) was honored in state court (juvenile dependency) proceedings.  Fought for the right of foreign born children to return to their country rather than face adoption.  See Aurelia N..

  • Co-founder of the Citizens to Elect Our Public Defender. Make the Public Defender truly a "Public Defender" for everyone,  particularly for the residents of this county who pay the bill. 

  •  " ... a bright, creative attorney ..." according to the San Jose Mercury News.

  • Volunteer, counselor, and tutor at the Asian Law Alliance and other community groups.

  • Strongly believes that we are at a critical point in the history of our Constitution and our Country.

  • Seeks the tools (by election as judge) so that he can live into his oath, and honor your oath, of protecting and defending the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic.  

  • Continuing his commitment to the people of Santa Clara County and California, Thomas Spielbauer is seeking to be a judge in our community.
